We are always happy to be given opportunities to use our skills to communicate something positive. With a message this strong we could not deliver anything short of perfect! This film is the ultimate example of a great script with a beautiful message for a great cause so we matched that with our creative team’s best!
It is not everyday that computer generated environments and characters are able to extract such deep feelings. When fantastical creatures made of pixels manage to evoke strong emotions from the viewer then animation magic has happened.
The Imaginary Friend Society campaign was created by RPA with the intention of gathering a selective group of studios together to deliver a great message for a great cause! Their campaign focused on communicating a message of comfort to kids with cancer at hospitals. Each script was aimed at depicting something delicate and relatable to what these kids were going through. Ours was about what goes into an MRI session and our task was to tell this story in a whimsical way.
"These characters were designed to be very charismatic and fun to look at. We wanted to design some sort of visual representation of care in the shape of a character."
"The film has a wonderful setting arc. We love the surprise element when we’re transported to outer space!"
"On this strange planet we used vibrant colors and organic shapes to visually depict comfort and curiosity, it had to be very obvious that this is a very happy planet."
"These characters have tons of charisma and their expressions show that really well. We even used the actual voice of one of our animators for one of them!"
This production was extremely important to us and we did many rounds of designs to find that sweet spot that everyone was hoping for.
As you can see, a lot of love went into every pixel and the result is a very literal passion project.
